Hey Is That The Antman? Join Cre8buzz Today!Posted on 20:18, August 11th, 2008 by admin

A REBLOG 1. Give us a little history of the start up and who is involved, name names..and what you think as far as each persons BEST personal gift or Talent to CRE8buzz? Ex. The Antman (to me)..The Voice : “Wow, a heavy question right out of the gate, dang girl, you don’t mess around. The buzz got started on an idea that social networks were cool, but hollow. We felt that there were millions of people with great ideas, talents, and experiences that needed a place to connect AND be seen for the talent. If you think about it, the first generation of social networks are not designed around the content,. Getting to the content wasn’t easy. cre8Buzz was designed around the content. We wanted to make it easy to find content, especially good content.” “It started with Jim Keenan our CEO in July of 06, the idea came to him in the car one day. Jim ain’t a programmer. He’s more of a Sales, Marketing guy. The story is he had the idea and no way to do it, when out of no where he bumped into Mike Ratliff an old buddy and, can you believe, techie guy. Jim hadn’t seen Mike in 4 years and just happened to bump into him randomly while visiting an open house. Completely frickin’ random. Those two cats spent every Sat. sittin’ in a room putting sticky notes on the wall trying to figure out this whole thing was gonna fly and BAM ya got cre8Buzz.com Once they carved out the idea, they added Gabe as our finance guy. He manages the money, easy job right now. Then they brought Keith on, he is our grounded one and is in charge of Marketing. After that, they connected with a development firm out of Chicago called Bridgepoint Technologies, they supplied PM and UI support. They are good, professional. They know process, kept us from steppin’ in it. Finally we brought John Svoboda on. John was our “research” and team intellect. He got the team to look at the other side of every issue. John just moved on, but was helpful in getting’ us here.” “As far as me the Antman is concerned, the boys gave me life from Chris Anderson’s book the long tail; where he references “the ants have megaphones” in his description of how the everyday person now has a louder voice because of the Internet. Yes, I am “The Proverbial Loud Mouth” but someone has to do it!”
“The best thing members can do for us is invite their friends, blog, and spread the word. Success in this space is measured by two things; users and site visits. The more active users we have, spending time on the site, putting up cool content, the more cred we’ll get.” 3. The Antman is awesome, he or she or they are so mysterious…did you do that intentionally and if so why? “I am blushing! Awesome? That is a little strong, but I’ll take it. I don’t think I am all that mysterious. I’m all over the site, and the web, ya’ll follow me on Twitter, on Facebook etc. Keenan, he is the one that could be interpreted as mysterious. He feels his job is to help run the company, not be in the spot light. So he decided just to be in the background. Why have few people seen him? It started kinda simple and we decided to keep runnin’ with it.”
4. The pods cast was really incredible, it’s like after I heard it now I really understand Social Networking and many of the past experiences I’ve had this past 2 years of blogging would have never happened if I did not reach out to one another on the web? What is a good piece of advice for that newbie Social Networker…what kind of reception would they get at CRE8buzz and why? “My advice, GET OUT THERE, Social Networking allows people a level of exposure we are NOT able to achieve in the real world. I tell people all the time, get ya big bad self out there, cruise peoples pages, comment on blogs, engage in forums, express ya self in blog posts and be BIGGER than life. Despite all this, the one rule folks MUST follow is be AUTHENTIC! You do these things and social networks can be very rewarding!” “The buzz has got to be the most open, accepting, inviting network on the planet! We take no credit for this. New buzzers, (new users to cre8buzz) get an avg of 5 – 10 “welcomes”. Folks are quick to offer help, friend, provide support and guide newbies around. It is frickin’ “spooky” in a good way how engaging folks are on the buzz.” 5. What makes CRE8buzz so special besides the obvious…the community members? “Ya can’t talk about cre8Buzz without talkin’ about the community. It’s what makes us who we are. So that is what makes us different. It’s all about the buzzers! Beyond the members, it is the buzzranking and how cre8Buzz pushes the best content out so it can be easily found and checked out. Like I said before, cre8Buzz is all about the content.” 6. Antman, how do you find time to comment, post and visit our profiles so frequently? Do you have a blogging schedule? “No, I ain’t got no bloggin schedule. That is probably why it only gets updated once or twice a week. Keith is better at than me anyway. He puts up some mad cool posts.”
7. It seems that CRE8buzz has only been open to people who were invited, by invitation only, why is that? When do you think you will open it up to the general public? “The site started “invite only” cause we didn’t want to grow too fast. We are small and have limited resources and didn’t want a gang of folks comin’ on to a site with lots of bugs and turnin’ away. Not that people have been bangin’ down the door, BUT we still think it was a good idea. This way we can grow slowly with the communities.” 8. I use cre8buzz for professional reasons, can you tell me the benefits of SEO? “Girl, I wish I could tell ya about the benefits of SEO, I know that the better the SEO the more people find ya. But, unfortunately I ain’t no SEO. What I can tell ya is when I google ya name and cre8buzz ya come up on the home page.” 9. I know that Cre8buzz has been in the limelight recently, can you guide us to a few online sources with all this fantastic news and kudos? “Dang, we should probably be better at this. But, we get lots of cool blog posts everyday, but the bigger stories, have come from Mashable here: Cre8buzz-podcast The ones we think are the best are from our users blogs, run a google search on cre8Buzz and ya’ll find some tight posts. We are unbelievable flattered by what people have written. Very humbling!”
10. How did the idea of cre8buzz and the antman happen? “Chris Anderson’s book the LongTail, “The Ants have megaphones!” We owe it all to that quote in his book.” 11. What do you think is the most important part of participating on cre8buzz and why? “Getting engaged. It is all about being an authentic participant. Just as in the real world; being real and participating is what it is about. The people who venture out and comment, interact, and meet people get the greatest return. Their readers increase, and their buzzrating grows, the rewards are tremendous.” 12. OK, I admit, I kinda have a thing for the antman, so mysterious and so kind and gentle…like a friend…now it’s not the person behind antman it’s the presence on the web, its that little avatar that shows up in my comments when I least expect it…I know I am not the only one who feels that way…. so is there anything special maybe a wee pit personal and outside of cre8buzz that you are willing to share…maybe a morsel? “Sorry girl, it is all secret, not much to share anyway. Just a simple ole ant, chillin’ on the hill!” 13. Last but not least can you get the guys to each give a small tip to the community members to help make cre8buzz bigger and better and why they think the current members are so great…would like to hear from all of them. Keith- “My simple suggestion is to be consistent and be genuine. People on the buzz value authenticity and if you bring it, you will attract others and you will be welcomed. I dont post much but I find that the more I put myself Gabe-“Tell your friends about the buzz, and tell them to tell their friends. As the CFO, I am responsible for the money. I don’t have much to do right now, so I would like it if you wonderful people would think of me with my sharpened pencil, visor, and suspenders, sitting at my deskanxiously waiting for something to do. Gosh, I need to get a life. Until then, I’ll just see you on the buzz. Oh yeah, Keith is right, have fun and be real. Thanks to all you buzzers, especially those who are trying to get me busy. We appreciate YOU!” EDIT-I HOPE TO INTERVIEW THE ANTMAN AGAIN! Posted in Blogroll, General, Technology, Web 2.0, social networks, the long tail | No Comments | Read More »

I am so excited as Ian Kennedy was so kind to interview with me. Just as the title says…check out the about me widget on my sidebar and look at the last social network on the list…you got it...Activerain!
![]() Are you the Tom (friend on everyone’s MySpace) on mybloglog, what exactly is your job title and what do you do?
“I’m the product manager which to me is like the conductor of a very talented group of developers that build and maintain the site. I try and keep my ear to the ground to get a sense of what our audience of users are looking for in the way of features and strike up a beat and tempo to meet their needs.”
Can you tell us what you like to do for fun? A little personal info?
“If you look at the tag cloud on my profile (http://www.mybloglog.com/buzz/members/iankennedy/tags/) you’ll see a couple of things. I am half-Japanese so enjoy keeping up with trends back home in Tokyo. I also enjoy cycling and once upon a time took six months off between jobs to ride across Europe.”
What inspires you?
“Shipping cool features for MyBlogLog users of course! I think we’re in a very interesting time where the things we do on-line will allow us to connect in new ways. Social Networks are breaking out of their containers so that what we do on-line spills over from one network to another. MyBlogLog helps enable that. I live for the moments when people meet in real life and connect in a richer, more meaningful way because of how much they have interacted on-line.”
A motto you live by?
“While it’s important to listen to your customers and ride the wave of where the market is going, in order to build something truly transformational, you sometimes need to stick to your guns. My favorite quote along those lines is from Henry Ford, “If I’d listened to customers, I’d have given them a faster horse”
I keep a collection of quotes and desktop wallpaper images I like over at http://iankennedy.typepad.com
Your avatar….why the sunglasses? “No reason really. I’m horribly camera shy so this is one of the few pictures I have of myself. It was taken by Todd Sampson, the co-founder of MyBlogLog when we were out for a sail on his boat. I was very happy that day and this avatar reminds me of that day.”
Any ideas for SEO on yahoo?
“Write consistently good stuff that people enjoy sharing and linking to. There’s no shortcut to a good reputation on-line - it takes time, focus, and patience.”
What do you like best about your job?
“The freedom to run a business and engage with my customers to build a great experience with the backing and support of a top-notch infrastructure group that is Yahoo!
What do you like the least about your job?
“Dealing with things that get in the way of the previous point.”
I really enjoyed participating in the mybloglog problogger contest, any other contests in the works?
“Not at the moment. We’ve gone into a period of rapid iteration of the New with Me feature we’ve recently posted about (http://mybloglogb.typepad.com/my_weblog/2008/02/broadcasting-yo.html)
. We’re also short a Community Manager because Robyn Tippins has left us to work on another project here at Yahoo!
so until we find the right person to step in there, we’re a little short on bandwidth for another contest.”
The mybloglog contest…I noticed you were out and about and joining communities, what did you think about the top 10 that made the list?
“I loved the fact that winner, Leo Gartsbeyn, shared some of his prizes with people that joined his community. “Sharing the love” is what we like to call it around here.
Successful bloggers are all about shining the spotlight on someone else and I’m really pleased that it worked for Leo. He wrote a great article about how he went about winning the contest which is well worth a read.”
Why do you all offer the free version of mybloglog?
“The free version is so that the community can grow organically. Those that want a little more from the service need to pay a little more and that’s really to keep a cap on too many people hitting our site with the advanced features which would make it very expensive to run the service.”
What are the benefits of the paid version vs. the free version?
“Primarily it’s the stats. With a PRO account ($3/month or $25/year per blog) you get intra-day stats and historical reports. There’s more detail on our Help site:
If there is one piece of advice you can give bloggers what would it be?
Start out with a couple of things nailed down because it’s hard to change course mid-stream.
Sorry, that’s three pieces of advice but if you roll it up into one, it’s making a choice and sticking with it. Unless you’re an excellent writer, no one wants to read the Rambling Musings of. . . type of blogs.
What do you think of this whole social network thing…is it a fad?
It’s evolving. Friendster begot MySpace begot Facebook. I think people are starting to realize that no single service can contain someone’s varied interest. We all have profiles spread out across the Internet. The next phase will consist of services that bring it all together around the individual, not a service. The internet should be about People, not sites.
Anything new coming up with yahoo or mybloglog you would like to share.
For Real Estate bloggers, be sure to take a look at our email signature
Recent Reader widget which are out now.
We also added fields where you can add pointers to your ActiveRain, Trulia, and Zillow profiles which will show up in your email signature and About Me widget.
As for the future, stay tuned for the New with Me feature which will aggregate your updates from some of the sites you’ve added to your profile’s Services tab making your profile a more dynamic and relevant representation of what you and your contacts on MyBlogLog have been up to.
One more important question Ian I forgot to ask you…can you explain the purpose of tags…and why its important to use them?
Tags are a way to quickly and easily add context to either a community or person you see on MyBlogLog.
We use the tags right now to help surface relevant profiles on MyBlogLog when you use the search box.
Try to search for “aviation” or “real estate” and you’ll find that we have a rich community of sites that may get lost in the noise of a search on a more general search engine.
I need to explain why I thought he was the Tom on Mybloglog, he does interact with the members, comments, visits and joins communities…You Rock Ian and love the new updated widget…and to think you remembered to add my Activerain!
Edit-Ian Kennedy is on my wishlist. It won’t be long before I send the trusty email to get yet another enlightening interview. Stay tuned!

Imagine Having 48,000 Subscribers-Problogger, Darren Rowse Reveals.Posted on 09:42, July 31st, 2008 by admin
Ok, you have probably heard me say it before about some of my online crushes, yes I have many, all of them so dreamy and so talented. Sounds like I am a wild child, well yes I am but the funny thing is even with all of these crushes I am still devoted to one man…the love of my life…the computer scientist. The computer scientist sometimes nags me and sometimes he gets very jealous.. You see my online crushes are talent crushes and I have to say since blogging I spend more time reading and reading. We both love information and one day I asked him to send me to a new talent crush, why because I want to be a better blogger, I want more readers… I love writing..now all I need to do is understand some of the intricate parts of blogging. He was happy to help me but at the same time wondering if he made a very huge mistake and will he and I ever have some time alone again? I spend hours reading a particular blog and I am so flattered and thrilled to have one of my many talent crushes interview with me..anyone who reads him knows him as “THE PROBLOGGER”…. I have a crush on his writing….I follow him on twitter..he recently co-authored a book…DARREN ROWSE! Tell us a little bit about yourself and how you got started blogging? “You can read the full Darren Rowse blogging story here (http://www.problogger.net/archives/2006/01/25/becoming-a-problogger/) but in brief: I live in Melbourne Australia with my wife, toddler (he’s almost 2) and soon to be born baby. “I started blogging back in 2002 on a personal blog which I started to record the journey of starting a new church (in my previous life I was a minister). I learned a lot from that blog and over the coming years started a number of other more commercial blogs including ProBlogger (a blog about blogging) and Digital Photography School (a photography tips blog). I also have met a lot of other bloggers through ProBlogger which has opened up a number of opportunities including to start b5media (a blog network with over 300 blogs) and write a book.” That sounds like a big ask but every day I come across bloggers who’ve founded blogs with this sort of mix of factors working for them. In terms of getting your blog read - there’s a lot of things I could suggest (I’ve written literally hundreds of posts on the topic and we write quite a bit about it in the book) but here are a few tips:
How many subscribers do you have on Problogger.net? “It varies from day to day but it generally between 45,000 to 48,000 at the moment. He has over 15,000 unique visits on some days and 20,000 or more on other days.” I am so excited that you have co-authored a book, what makes the book so different from your Blog? And why should I buy the book vs. reading your blogs? “There’s a definite overlap between the blog and the book - however the blog has been going now for 3 and a half years and has 4000+ posts on it. Some of these posts are a little dated and while I attempt to give readers good ways of accessing the best stuff it’s presented in chronological order and isn’t the kind of thing you could read in an order that might be sensible for a new blogger. The book on the other hand is up to date, ordered in a logical way that leads readers through different topics and areas that they need to consider in starting a successful blog. It’s written in a language that a beginner can understand and an intermediate blogger will be able to go further with. Personally I think you should read the book AND the blog :-)” Can you give us a few SEO Tips? “Search Engines are a logical place for a blogger to desire to get traffic from. While other social media sites have become popular in helping people find information online the majority of people still head to Google when they want to access information. Blogs are naturally pretty good at ranking well in Google but there are a number of things that you can do to enhance this and rank higher:
Do you have any weaknesses when it comes to blogging? “Like many bloggers I can get quite addicted to it and spend too much time online. I try to set myself boundaries for when I am online and when I take breaks - but it can be hard because I love it so much!” How often do you post? “I try to post to ProBlogger at least twice a day and to Digital Photography School once a day.” We are a real estate community and there has been much debate, in your professional opinion, do you think we should just write about real estate? “I encourage bloggers to stick to their core topic for the majority of the time. The more you go off topic the less focused your blog becomes and the less likely you are to find readers who share your wide variety of interests. Do inject a little personality into your blog and don’t be afraid to share some of the other parts of your life - but if you’re trying to use your blog to build your profile and expertise in a particular niche/topic then you’ll want to stick to that topic most of the time.” Ok, now I know you are on twitter, facebook among other places, what social network platforms do you enjoy and think will be helpful for us to grow our communities and our business? “I personally enjoy Twitter a lot. I find it to be a space that is very personal, interactive and playful. It is also increasingly sending me decent traffic to my blogs as I grow the number of ‘followers‘ that I have there. I think the platforms that you use will vary from topic to topic and depending upon your personality. Some social media sites are more appealing to different demographics and topics so you should experiment with a lot of them - but then concentrate on those that work best for you.” Please explain to us how you feel about commenting on blogs and of course your blog? “Commenting on other people’s blogs is one of the most basic and effective ways to grow your own profile and traffic in a niche. My approach is to only leave comments on another blog if you have something useful to say. If your comment benefits others you’re more likely to have it come back to benefit you. If you spam other people’s comments you’ll hurt your brand.” Check out some early post you might find useful!
I have to say, when he said yes to my request, I was so excited. As a matter of fact, my crush rekindled going through some of his archives…so if you are new or experienced really doesn’t matter.. I guarantee if you take the time to read his blog..and practice what he preaches I too believe you will increase your readership, your subscribers and your business too! If you find his words useful in your business buy the Problogger book today! “Unlike other books that are big on potential and theory, ProBlogger provides results based on the authors own experience of what really works through practical, tried and tested advice. Wiley” Edit-Problogger, Darren Rowse has agreed to another interview see how he responds to my book review questions? Stay tuned..coming soon. |
